Special Instructions — Read Before Applying

These requirements apply to ALL Estonia visa types. Violations mean your application will be rejected — read each one carefully.

  • 1Apply at least 15 calendar days BEFORE your travel date. Maximum lead time: 6 months (9 months for seafarers). Apply too late and the Embassy may not be able to process in time.
  • 2DO NOT purchase flight tickets before the visa is issued — VFS / Embassy explicitly warn against pre-purchase. Submit only provisional bookings / itineraries.
  • 3All financial documents (bank statements, salary slips, ITR) must be ORIGINALS in A4 format, signed and stamped by the issuing bank.
  • 410 fingerprints are collected at submission unless previously taken within the last 59 months OR you're under 12 / physically impossible to fingerprint.
  • 5Estonia must be your MAIN destination in Schengen for the Embassy to accept the application. If your trip splits time equally across Schengen states, apply through the country of first entry.
  • 6If you've been refused a Schengen visa before, address the rejection reason directly in your cover letter.

Who Can Apply

  • Indian citizens visiting Estonia for tourism, sightseeing, or leisure trips
  • Travellers using Estonia as their main Schengen destination (or country of first entry if splitting time equally)
  • Visitors planning combined Schengen itineraries that begin or focus on Estonia

Not eligible under this visa:

  • Travellers whose main Schengen destination is another country — apply through that country's representation instead
  • Anyone planning to work, study, or settle in Estonia (apply for the relevant Type D Long-Stay visa via the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board)
  • Travellers wanting to stay >90 days in any 180-day window

Schengen Tourist Visa Eligibility Check

Answer 10 quick questions to see your likelihood of approval. This is not a guarantee — final decision is always with the Embassy — but it flags common weak spots so you can address them before applying.

0 / 10
1

What's the primary purpose of your trip?

2

How long do you plan to stay?

3

Have you previously visited any Schengen country?

4

Have you ever been refused a Schengen (or any country's) visa?

Past refusals must be disclosed — they show up in VIS database across Schengen countries.

5

Do you have confirmed travel bookings?

Reservations are enough — don't buy tickets until visa approval.

6

What's your current employment status?

7

What's your typical 3-month bank balance?

Schengen needs ~₹700/day covered. For a 10-day trip, minimum ₹70,000 stable balance.

8

How many years of Income Tax Returns (ITR) can you show?

9

What are your strongest ties to India (return-intent)?

Embassies want evidence you'll come back — not overstay.

10

Who are you travelling with?

Indicative only — final decision is always with the Embassy.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Estonia is a Schengen GATEWAY — pair Tallinn with Helsinki (2-hour ferry), Riga (4-hour bus), or St Petersburg-side via Narva for cost-effective multi-city itineraries.
  • Apply 4–6 weeks before travel to allow buffer for the 15–45 day processing window.
  • Match your bank statement balance to the trip's actual cost — €70/day minimum proof of funds is the unofficial benchmark.
  • Multiple-entry visas valid up to 5 years are granted for repeat travellers with strong Schengen history.

Common Rejection Reasons

  • 1.Estonia is NOT actually the main destination on the itinerary
  • 2.Insufficient bank balance vs trip cost (rule of thumb: €70/day in Estonia)
  • 3.Bank statement is photocopy / unsigned / unsealed by the issuing branch
  • 4.Vague itinerary without confirmed hotel reservations or fixed dates
  • 5.Tickets purchased before visa issuance (red flag for Schengen embassies)
