💡 Pro Tips

  • Apply 2–3 weeks before travel — 5 working days is the minimum, but Embassy can extend.
  • Japan has rolled out Multiple-Entry visas for Indian travellers with Japan travel history (Multiple 1-7). If you've been to Japan twice in 3 years, the Multiple visa is much easier to get than a fresh tourist visa.
  • Income Tax Returns (ITR) are always accepted; bank statements are the fallback. Submit both when applying for Multiple entry visas.
  • For Student/Dependent applicants: always include parent/spouse's ITR + consent letter.
  • Photocopies on A4 only — other sizes cause rejection at VFS counter.
  • J-Find is a newer category — great for Indian graduates of IITs, IIMs, IISc wanting to explore Japan's job market without firm job offer.
  • 2 years is substantial time to find job, launch startup, or pivot career in Japan.
  • Family dependents visa makes it viable for married graduates.
  • Once employed, convert J-Find to regular Work visa (Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/etc.) in Japan.

Common Rejection Reasons

  • 1.University not on eligible J-Find list
  • 2.Graduation older than 5 years
  • 3.Insufficient savings proof
  • 4.Description of activities unclear or unrealistic

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Indian universities are eligible?+
Mostly top-ranked in QS/Times Higher Education rankings. Typically: all IITs, IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta), IISc Bangalore, AIIMS Delhi, University of Delhi, JNU, IIT-BHU, NITs. Check moj.go.jp/isa/content/001394994.pdf for exact list.
I graduated 4 years ago from IIT Delhi — do I qualify?+
Yes — IIT Delhi is on the list, and 4 years is within the 5-year window. You qualify.
What can I do on J-Find visa?+
Job hunting, entrepreneurial activity, OR other remunerative activity. You CAN work (unlike tourist) but not in regulated professions (medicine, law) without appropriate status-of-residence.
Can I convert to permanent work visa?+
Yes — once you find employment, your Japanese employer files for status-of-residence change (J-Find → Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/etc.) WITHOUT you leaving Japan.
Is 200,000 yen (~₹1.25 lakh) enough?+
It's the minimum — in practice, Tokyo/Osaka costs are high. Japan recommends having 500,000+ yen for comfortable 6 months. Budget wisely.
Can my spouse work on dependent visa?+
Dependents cannot work full-time without permission — need to apply separately. Spouse can work up to 28 hours/week with activities permit (usually granted).
