Document Checklist

What to Carry to VFS Mumbai

Original documents required for your France Schengen visa appointment. Missing any single item is the most common reason for rescheduling.

Passport (original + copy)

Valid for at least 3 months past your return date, with at least 2 blank facing pages. Bring a photocopy of the bio page and any old passports.

Photographs (×2)

35 × 45 mm, plain white background, taken within last 3 months, face occupying ~80% of frame, no glasses, ICAO compliant. Bring a third spare just in case.

Printed visa application form

Completed online via france-visas.gouv.fr, printed, signed in BLUE ink on every page. Schengen visa applications are filed via the France-Visas portal first; VFS only collects the file.

Fee payment receipt

Schengen short-stay visa fee: €90 (~₹8,200). VFS service charge: ~₹1,500. Pay online during booking; bring the printed receipt.

Cover / motivation letter

One A4 page, addressed to the Consulate of France, explaining the purpose of travel, dates, and your ties to India.

Bank statements — last 6 months

A4 size, branch-stamped on every page in dark blue ink. We strongly recommend a healthy closing balance — typically ₹2 lakh+ for a 7–10 day Schengen trip.

Income Tax Returns — last 3 years

ITR-V acknowledgements for AY 2023-24, 2024-25, 2025-26. If self-employed, also bring P&L and balance sheet.

Employment proof

On company letterhead: NOC stating you are on approved leave, your salary continues, plus your designation and joining date. For business owners: company registration proof and 3 months' GST returns.

Travel insurance

Minimum €30,000 coverage, valid for ALL Schengen states, dates matching your travel + 1 day buffer either side. Reliance, Tata AIG, ICICI Lombard accepted. ~₹1,500–₹2,500.

Confirmed flight reservation

Round-trip flight booking — refundable hold, NOT paid in full. Most travel agents will issue a free 14-day hold.

Hotel bookings — every night

Refundable bookings (Booking.com works) covering every single night of your stay in Schengen states. The Embassy spot-checks 1 in 5 files.

Day-by-day itinerary

One page summarising city-by-city movements with dates. Doesn't need to be elaborate, but must be consistent with your hotels and flights.

Step-by-Step

How to Book Your VFS Mumbai Slot

France visa applications go through France-Visas first, then VFS. Here's the full sequence.

1

Complete the visa application online

Go to france-visas.gouv.fr, register, fill the visa form for the visa type you need (short-stay Schengen / long-stay D-visa).

2

Select VFS Mumbai as collection centre

At the end of the form, the system asks where you'll submit. Choose VFS Mumbai. The portal redirects to VFS Global to schedule your appointment.

3

Pick a date and time slot

Available slots are shown 1–4 weeks ahead depending on season. If everything is booked, set up daily monitoring — slots free up daily as others reschedule. (We do this automatically for our clients.)

4

Pay the visa fee

€90 Schengen visa fee + VFS service charge. Pay online via card or net banking. Save the payment receipt as a PDF and print it.

5

Print your appointment confirmation

The booking confirmation email contains your exact VFS centre address, slot time, and a barcode. Print and bring this — VFS does not allow mobile phones inside.

6

Arrive 15 minutes early on the appointment day

Carry only your printed file + small wallet. Mobile phones, laptops, and large bags are not allowed past security. Plan an extra 30 minutes for security check + waiting.

Inside the Centre

What Happens at Your VFS Appointment

Total time inside: 30–45 minutes. Most of it is waiting.

0–15 min

Security check & waiting area

Phone deposit, bag scan, file your token. Quiet, clean, A/C waiting room.

15–30 min

Document submission

Counter agent verifies your file against the checklist. Signs and stamps the original copies.

30–45 min

Biometrics + photo

Fingerprints (10 fingers, ~5 min), digital photo. Receipt with tracking number.

After biometrics: your file is sent to the French Consulate for decision. Track status daily on the VFS Global website using the reference number from your receipt. Standard processing: 15 calendar days.

Avoid Rejection

Why Files Get Rescheduled at VFS

The 7 most common reasons VFS Mumbai sends applicants home with an incomplete file. Each one is preventable.

Photograph wrong size or background

Fix: Always use a VFS-approved photo studio. Bring 3 prints, not 2 — VFS sometimes rejects the first.

Bank statement not branch-stamped

Fix: Get every page stamped at the branch in dark blue ink. Self-printed PDFs without stamps are rejected.

Insurance under €30,000 or not Schengen-wide

Fix: Verify the insurance certificate explicitly states '€30,000 minimum, valid in all Schengen states'.

Hotel booking not refundable / not for every night

Fix: Use Booking.com 'Free cancellation' rates. Cover every single night, not just the first city.

Itinerary inconsistent with bookings

Fix: Cross-check dates: arrival flight → first hotel night, hotel checkout → next city, etc. Single-day mismatches get queried.

Cover letter too generic or copy-pasted

Fix: Mention specific places, restaurants, or events. Generic 'I want to enjoy France' letters get refused.

Insufficient ties to India

Fix: Add a property document, family responsibility letter, or evidence of ongoing employment beyond your travel dates.

FAQ

Common Questions about France VFS Mumbai

Where is the France VFS centre in Mumbai?+
France VFS in Mumbai is located in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) area. The exact suite address can change occasionally as VFS relocates within BKC — always confirm via the official VFS Global locator at vfsglobal.com/france/india before your appointment.
What are the working hours of France VFS Mumbai?+
Standard hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and Indian + French national holidays. Your appointment confirmation email lists the exact arrival window.
How do I book an appointment at France VFS Mumbai?+
France visa appointments are booked through the France-Visas portal (france-visas.gouv.fr) — NOT directly through VFS. You complete the visa application online, choose Mumbai as your collection centre, pay the fee, and the system schedules your VFS appointment automatically. SureshotVisa books and tracks slots for you if VFS Mumbai is fully booked, and we monitor for earlier openings daily.
How much is the France visa fee in Mumbai?+
Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa fee is €90 (approximately ₹8,200, varies with FX rate). VFS Global service charge: ~₹1,500. Total ~₹9,700 paid online during booking. Travel insurance (~₹1,500) and our consultancy fee (only if you proceed) are separate.
How long does the appointment take?+
Plan for 45 minutes inside the centre. The actual document submission and biometrics take ~20–30 minutes — the rest is waiting. Arrive 15 minutes before your slot. Mobile phones are not allowed inside; carry your printed appointment confirmation.
Can I avoid going to VFS in person?+
No — biometrics (fingerprints + photo) are mandatory and require an in-person visit unless you've given biometrics for a Schengen visa within the last 59 months. SureshotVisa handles every other step (form filling, document review, courier of the file, slot booking, post-decision passport pick-up) so VFS is the only physical step you need to make.
What is the France visa processing time from Mumbai?+
Standard processing: 15 calendar days from the date your file reaches the French Consulate. Peak season (April–July, October–December): can extend to 21–30 days. Apply at least 4 weeks before your travel date.
Does France VFS Mumbai handle long-stay visas (Type D)?+
Yes — Type D long-stay visas (student, work, family reunification) are processed through the same VFS Mumbai centre but follow a different documentation set than Schengen short-stay. The application is filed via france-visas.gouv.fr with the appropriate visa type selected.

VFS Mumbai address, hours, and procedures are accurate as of April 2026. VFS Global occasionally relocates centres or changes operating hours; always verify the current details from your appointment confirmation email or the official VFS Global France India page before travelling. SureshotVisa is not affiliated with VFS Global or the French Consulate — we are an independent licensed visa consultancy assisting Indian applicants.
