Hungary — Full Schengen member · Two India jurisdictions

One Hungary visa = all 29 Schengen countries. But the right Indian jurisdiction is non-negotiable.

Hungary processes Indian applications through TWO offices: the Embassy in New Delhi for north India, and the Consulate General in Mumbai for south & west (Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Cochin, Pune, Goa, Puducherry, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad). Submit to the wrong one and your file is returned without a decision. All applications go via VFS Joint Visa Application Centre.

29 Schengen countries

Full Schengen member — Hungary visa unlocks the whole zone during validity, not just Hungary.

15 calendar days

Minimum processing. Apply at least 15 days before travel; max six months in advance.

VFS Joint Centre

All submissions via VFS — biometrics required on long-term D visas (₹1,920 extra service fee).

Note: SureshotVisa handles Hungary Tourist, Business, Conference, Cultural & Sports, Educational Training, Medical, Family-of-EU-Citizen, Visiting Family/Friends, Airport Transit short-stay visas — plus long-term D visas for Study, Family Reunification, Research, Official, Medical, Voluntary Service. Special Instructions — Read Before Applying

These requirements apply to ALL Hungary visa types. Violations mean your application will be rejected — read each one carefully.

  • 1Hungary processes Indian applications through TWO offices: Embassy of Hungary, New Delhi (north India) and Consulate General of Hungary, Mumbai (south & west: Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Sri Lanka). Applying at the wrong jurisdiction means your file gets returned without decision.
  • 2All applications submit through VFS Joint Visa Application Centre — biometrics are mandatory on long-term D applications (₹1,920 separate service charge).
  • 3Photo specification: 35–40mm wide passport-size, color, white background, no head-dress (except religious), no glasses reflection — slightly different from the typical 35×45mm Schengen photo.
  • 4Apply at least 15 calendar days before travel; max 6 months before. Files with less than 15 days' lead may be returned without decision.
  • 5Travel medical insurance must be from a Hungary-Embassy-approved Indian insurer with €30,000 minimum coverage and Schengen-wide validity (accident + illness + medical emergency + repatriation).
  • 6Passport must be valid at least 3 months beyond intended stay (D visas need ≥18 months), have at least 2 blank pages, and have been issued within the previous 10 years. Handwritten passports issued after 1 April 2010 are NOT accepted; passports with manual corrections in the bio-data page are NOT accepted.
  • 7ALL documents marked with (*) must be in ORIGINAL — photocopies are not enough.
  • 8Sri Lanka nationals must apply at the German Embassy Colombo (which issues Hungary visas on Hungary's behalf), not at India centres.
  • 9The mere possession of a Hungary visa does NOT confer automatic right of entry — the Schengen Border Officer at first point of entry can still refuse admission if doubts arise about the visit's purpose.

Who Can Apply

  • Indian students enrolled in short courses (≤90 days) at Hungarian institutions
  • Researchers on short scientific exchanges / fellowships
  • Professionals attending corporate training programmes hosted in Hungary

Not eligible under this visa:

  • Courses / programmes longer than 90 days — apply for Hungary Study (Type D) instead

🗺️ Step-by-Step Application Process

1

Confirm Hungary is your main Schengen destination

Apply via Hungary if your itinerary spends most time (or has its main purpose) there. If splitting time evenly, apply through the country of first entry.

2

Identify the right India jurisdiction

South & west India (Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Cochin, Pune, Goa, Puducherry, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad) → Consulate General Mumbai. Rest of India + Bhutan + Nepal → Embassy New Delhi. Wrong jurisdiction = returned without decision.

3

Complete the online VFS application form

Use the form for your zone (Mumbai/west has a separate form). Print and sign.

4

Gather all required documents

Use the checklist for your visa category. Originals where marked (*), with stamps and signatures from the issuing authority where required. Insurance from a Hungary-Embassy-approved Indian insurer only.

5

Book your VFS appointment

Visit visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/hun/ — book the slot at your jurisdiction's centre.

6

Submit at VFS + biometrics + pay fees

Attend in person. Pay visa fee (₹9,600 adult / ₹4,800 child 6–12 / ₹0 child <6) + ₹2,133 service fee. Biometrics taken at the centre unless reusable from a prior Schengen application within 59 months.

7

Wait for the decision (15 calendar days)

Track via VFS website. The Embassy / Consulate may call you for an interview or request additional documents.

8

Collect your passport from VFS

Once notified, collect from VFS or use courier (mandatory for south & west zone). Verify visa validity dates and entry type before leaving the counter.

Schengen Tourist Visa Eligibility Check

Answer 10 quick questions to see your likelihood of approval. This is not a guarantee — final decision is always with the Embassy — but it flags common weak spots so you can address them before applying.

0 / 10
1

What's the primary purpose of your trip?

2

How long do you plan to stay?

3

Have you previously visited any Schengen country?

4

Have you ever been refused a Schengen (or any country's) visa?

Past refusals must be disclosed — they show up in VIS database across Schengen countries.

5

Do you have confirmed travel bookings?

Reservations are enough — don't buy tickets until visa approval.

6

What's your current employment status?

7

What's your typical 3-month bank balance?

Schengen needs ~₹700/day covered. For a 10-day trip, minimum ₹70,000 stable balance.

8

How many years of Income Tax Returns (ITR) can you show?

9

What are your strongest ties to India (return-intent)?

Embassies want evidence you'll come back — not overstay.

10

Who are you travelling with?

Indicative only — final decision is always with the Embassy.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Hungarian-side and Indian-side institution letters should align on dates, course title, and applicant role.
  • Apply 4–6 weeks before course start — last-minute applications are returned without decision.
  • If your course exceeds 90 days, switch to Type D Study — different deciding office, longer processing.

Common Rejection Reasons

  • 1.Course duration exceeds 90 days but applied as Type C
  • 2.No language proficiency proof
  • 3.Missing sending-institution letter

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my course is exactly 90 days?+
Type C is fine for stays up to 90 days. If your course is 91+ days, you must apply for Type D Study Long-Stay — different forms, different deciding office, and you'll need a Hungarian residence permit on arrival.
Do I need IELTS or just an English-medium certificate?+
Either works for most cases. The Hungarian host institution's confirmation of language requirement is the deciding factor — get them to write specifically what proof they accept.
Can SureshotVisa help with Hungary education / training visas?+
Yes — we align the Indian and Hungarian institution letters, prepare the financial pack, and route to the correct India jurisdiction. Free consultation to start.
