Subclass 771 Transit visa is free and allows Indian passport holders to pass through Australia for up to 72 hours en route to another country. You can also use it if you hold a Maritime Crew visa and need to join a ship in Australia within 5 days of arrival. If your Australian transit is less than 8 hours and you won't leave the airport, you likely don't need a visa at all.

  • Indian travellers transiting Australia for under 72 hours en route to a third country
  • Applicants with a confirmed onward booking + valid entry documents for the destination country
  • Maritime crew joining an eligible ship within 5 days of arrival (must also hold Maritime Crew visa 988)

Not eligible under this visa:

  • Anyone staying in Australia for leisure, business or other purposes (use Visitor 600 instead)
  • Anyone without a confirmed onward ticket and valid destination-country entry documents
